EVERYONE APPRECIATES a homemade gift that comes from the heart — and the kitchen. So, with that in mind, we gathered recipes from family and friends who’ve made edible “gifts in a jar.” From beverage, brownie, cookie, cake, soup and other food mixes, there are recipes sure to please the palates of those on your Christmas gift list.
Some recipes require careful placement of individual ingredients in a jar, while others require simply mixing ingredients together. Experiment. Deviate from the recipes, but always do a trial run to assure the recipe works. Then personalize and fancy up your covered jars by adding festive labels or ribbons or cloth. Finally, attach the recipe. You will have created a delectable “gift in a jar” that is sure to delight.

Chocolate Chip Bars Place the following ingredients in a jar in the To prepare: First cream the following |
Cinnamon Mocha Coffee 2 cups sugar 1 cup powdered nondairy creamer |
¾ cup Tang Place all ingredients in a glass jar, cover and shake or layer the ingredients, cover and shake before using. To serve, stir two heaping teaspoons into one cup of hot water. |
Brownie Mix 2¼ cups sugar Layer ingredients in order given in quart jar, pressing To prepare: Empty jar of brownie mix into large mixing bowl and blend. Add and mix until blended: 1½ sticks butter or margarine, melted 4 slightly beaten eggs Spread batter in a greased 9- x 13-inch cake pan and bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. |
