Welcome to the summer edition of Minnesota Moments. Looking back, honoring veterans and picking strawberries! Summertime, finally.

Oh, how we Minnesotans relish our summer activities! Whether it’s watching the world go by from our front porch, sitting around a campfire, or boating, we northerners try to squeeze out the most of one of the best reasons to live in the Land of 10,000 Lakes — summer.

In this issue of Minnesota Moments, we feature some of the better things about the state, including our 2009 “Best Hometown” award winner, Hutchinson.

Hutchinson has so many things we love about a small town. Read about it and if you aren’t familiar with this gem of a community, plan a visit soon.

Another feature package centers on automobiles. Most of us have a story about cars. Those memories may focus on the car in which we first learned how to drive. Or maybe it’s a story about your driver’s test or your first family car vacation. Perhaps, you remember your first “car date” and watching “submarine races at the lake,” even though it was 11 p.m. and too dark to see anything past the hood ornament.

Speaking of cars, you may want to jump into yours after you read Audrey Kletscher Helbling’s story about food-themed festivals held during the summer across the state. Whether your weakness is homemade pies or corn on the cob, you’ll find a festival (and a recipe) that you’ll just have to try. And while you’re at that festival, tell them that Audrey sent you.

We hope you enjoy this issue and the rest of your summer. After all, our fall edition will be in your mailbox all too soon!

Enjoy!
