March/April 08 Issue CoverWe hope this issue finds you all happy and healthy and prepared for the onslaught of holiday activities.

If you are a regular reader of this magazine, you’ll probably have noticed that our cover doesn’t have a red barn on it, as our first four holiday issues did. We decided to break with tradition in an effort to inject some new energy into the magazine.

The holiday cover tradition was started, in part, to highlight local artists’ work. We also wanted to do something to pay tribute to Minnesota Moments’ parent company, redBARN Publishing, Inc.

We’ve been asked on occasion where the name redBARN Publishing came from. It actually hit us as an interesting name for our business when we were trying to decide what to call our magazine.

Initially, the working title for our magazine was Down Home, but we weren’t crazy about that name. So, we brainstormed for hours. One of the names we came up with was Red Barn. But, alas, that was too rural for our magazine name, but perfect for our business name, since we both grew up on farms and because the red barn is so symbolic.

We were still left looking for a magazine name. The brainstorming continued until a friend of ours, Jennifer Quigley, came up with the name Minnesota Moments.

That’s the story behind our names.

We’d like to give a special thanks to photographer Stuart Goldschen for the wonderful pictures he took for this edition. He shot them last holiday season on a frigid day at a local tree farm. Stuart spent hours at the shoot, trying to keep his camera, and his toes and fingers, from freezing. He did a marvelous job.

Enjoy this issue of the magazine and the holiday season.
