Can’t wait for spring? We’ll help!
It looks as though we have survived another Minnesota winter.
Sure, anything can happen weather-wise in March, but let’s face it, there’s
light at the end of the snow tunnel. So, as we stand here with one boot planted
in winter and one foot waiting expectantly for sandal weather, we bring you another
issue of Minnesota Moments.
There’s nothing quite as glorious as the thought of spring and all that
it brings — warmer temperatures, melting snow, spring showers, newborn
animals, blossoms, buds, gardens and ponds and ... the list is endless.
In this issue of Minnesota Moments, we bring you a little bit of some of those
things and more.
We will introduce you to Kevin and Chris Ehlinger of Avon and show you the beautiful
backyard pond they created.
You’ll meet Gretchen Lindgren, who with the help of her husband, David,
has established a breathtaking cottage garden around their refurbished farm house
southeast of St. Cloud.
If you like to take summer walks or bike jaunts, you’ll want to read our
travel stories on the Lanesboro area, written in part by frequent contributors
Cheri Tollefson Lehse and Deb Paul.
You’ll not want to miss reading about the Vern and Barb Salzl home near
Cold Spring. The Salzls’ home is filled with granite from around the world.
Granite, which can be found in abundance throughout Minnesota, is becoming a
popular choice in homes today.
Another long-time Minnesota Moments contributor, John DuBois, writes about a
wilderness trek that challenged him physically but was inspirational and helped
him in his journey to deal with the death of a son.
If you can’t wait until the ice leaves the lakes to get your boat on the
open waters, read about Paul Mikkelson’s “garage” in Willmar
that houses his collection of antique Minnesota-made Larson Falls Flyer boats.
And if after that, your spring fever really is running high, we’ll give
you a how-to on flying kites. Could there be a more spring-like activity?
Mike Nistler and Diane Wimmer
