Welcome to summer and Minnesota Moments

Last autumn, after the summer of 2005 had passed and officially was registered in the record books of time, we asked readers to share with us some of their favorite memories of the summer that was.

You will find those essays in this issue. They are diverse, but can be summed up with the letter B: bears, birds, baseball and a burial. Only one doesn’t fit into the B category, and that is a cute remembrance of making a list and checking it twice. We hope you enjoy the offerings and take a moment to reflect on some of your favorite memories of summers gone by. Make the most of this summer and try to make a memory that will last for years to come.

Also in this issue, we feature a beautiful little art gallery that is tucked in the countryside near Hutchinson called the Clay Coyote Gallery & Pottery. It is owned and operated by Betsy Price and Tom Wirt, who not only create beautiful pottery, but offer a venue for artisans from around the country to display their wares as well. It definitely is a destination to put on your list to visit this summer.

And, speaking of places that you should plan on visiting, how about the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge? Writer and photographer Jean Davids shares with readers her observations and pictures from her time spent there last year. If wildlife viewing is what you’re after, this oasis is a must-see.

To help you cope with those hot summer days ahead, we provide some drink recipes that are sure to refresh.

And, as always, a host of essayists shares with you their thoughts on myriad topics.

So, make yourself a tall, cool drink, pull up a lawn chair and relax.
We hope you not only enjoy the summer days ahead, but this issue of Minnesota Moments as well.

Enjoy!

Mike Nistler and Diane Wimmer
